2003 Chevy Impala with 200k miles has Passlock Issues Sign In

This is a rather generic post and problem. I(and many other 2000-05 gm owners) Have an issue with the security light or the passlock not allowing the car to start.

Little back story, I had the same problem about 6 months ago and I removed the passlock interface/module and the problem went away more or less.

So forward six months it's back and I generally have to do the soft reset on the security system to get it to start. (Leave key in on position for ten minutes)

Sadly this no longer works and I have a two ton paperweight.

So I just went and got a new ingition cylinder with a security chip and installed it and I put the passlock module back in. I tried to get it to relearn the new code and no luck.

Since it's so cold, I was in a hurry and COMPLETELY forgot to disconnect the battery for a bit to remove the old error codes and all that jazz.

I'm gonna give it another shot when i warm up. If I disconect the battery and redo the "learning new code" process think it will work?

And if this does not work, what should i try next? Replacing the ignition switch?

Any ideas would be so very much appreciated, thanks guys!

If there still is a problem with the system, it won't work.

Make sure the passlock system is indeed causing the no start. Find out what codes are stored in the BCM and then troubleshoot from there.

I don't know what you removed but there is no Passlock interface module in this car.

There are no security chips in a Passlock system. There is a sensor within the lock cylinder that either works or it doesn't. It sends the unlock signal to the BCM. If the light isn't flashing when you try to start it, then you likely have a hard malfunction code in the system and you will need a professional level scan tool to be able to read the BCM.
