2002 kia sedona died and wont start help! Sign In

i have a 2002 kia sedona that has a rear heating and cooling. we had it checked out because it overheats sometimes and we have to constantly keep antifreeze in it, when i had it checked i was told there was a slow leak coming from the lines that run from the raidiator back to the rear heating and cooling. i was driving today and noticed my heater quit working and i was at a stop light and could tell it was starting to overheat agian. i came to the next stop light and it just died, i got it to start back up n go for a few min before it died agian, but this time it would not start. it wont even turn over. so i had a friend put jumper cables on it and got it to start back up but as soon as u take ur foot off the gas it dies agian. it also acted like it was having a hard time going over 30 mile an hr and started making noises and smoking! i jumped it and drove it a few miles each time and sometimes the ights inside the car would come on and sometimes they wouldnt. i have no clue whats going on! help!

I'm don't have the knowledge that the professional mechanics have here but do work on my own vehicles. If it has been overheating you really need to get that taken care of before you have some big time damage. If a vehicle overheats it can lead to a blown head gasket and possibly a cracked or warped head. That can get very expensive.

One possible sign of a blown head gasket is kind of what you described except for the part where you said it wasn't turning over until you were able to jump start it. That part sounds like it's something electrical. What can happen when you blow a head gasket is antifreeze can get into the pistons, the vehicle can lose power and it will sometimes stall. I don't believe it would have any effect on it not being able to at least turn over though.

I pretty much just wanted to let you know that you have to be very careful if it's overheating. If you're able to drive it again and it starts overheating, pull over immediatly and shut it down. If you continue to drive a car, and allow it to overheat, the repairs can get very costly.

You'll get some replies here you just have to give it some time. There are a great group of professional mechanics here that spend their spare time helping us out for free and do a great job at it. They'll give you some ideas to try in order to troubleshoot your issue. If you're not able to try their ideas, or have someone that can try them for you, you may just want to take in for repair.

Best of luck.

what are some signs of a blown head gasket? i took it in to have it looked at and i was told i have a leak in the line that leads to the back of the rear heating and cooling. we constantly add antifreeze and it seems to never pull from the reserve tank at all because its always full! i have an appt thursday to get that line repaired. but ran into this problem today. i cnt get it to start at all without jumping it and then it only stays running if your foot is on the gas. i tried that about three times to just get it out of the middle of the intersection to a near by parking lot. the last time i jumped it tonight it seemed to be working hard just to get up to a little bit of a speed n was making a loud noise n when it finally died agian i lifed the hood n there was smoke but i cant tell exactly where it is coming from. this happened a few hrs ago and i had it towed home n it still wont start. it seems like a whole lot of issues going on! it does not blow out heat and the battery anf e brake light is on but the e brake isnt engaged and when u try n start it it dosent turn over! the radio light and all of that dont work when u turn the key back either. thanks for the advice but im totally clueless n seems like more than one issue is going on!

Your right to own a car has been revoked. You are now required to always have a 10 year old with you so you will know when you shouldn't be driving your car.

AMEN! You drove it without coolant, overheating the engine. You did so until it locked up. When it cooled the pistons you fried unlocked from the cylinders you wrecked and turned on bearings that are fried like an egg. What was a simple coolant line repair is now a simple coolant line repair AND a new engine. Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of a Korean boat anchor.
