Ok, so I went to the store and when I came out to start my car, it makes this loud clanging. It sounds like the motor but everyone I talk to says I would have had some warning signs. I had none. no over heating, no waning lights, no noises, nothing. It won't even stay started. its a 2001 ford escort se 2.0 engine with about 140,000 on it. Please help. Thanks

We can't hear it over the Internet so you're going to have to get a professional to listen to it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

ok. It sounds like ball bearings in washing machine. Loud metal to metal grinding. if i had the money to get it towed to a pro, I would. But since I don't, I thought maybe I could get some kind of help here.

Those engines are prone to dropping valve seats.. as hammer said there is little we can tell you without information.. if you want to confirm my gusse get a compression tester and test all the cyclinders. But could it be a number of different things..
