2001 VW, brakes - compressing cylinder???

I am up late trying to repair the brakes on my 2001 VW Beetle and am having trouble compressing the cylinders. Is there some trick to this I am not aware of? My C-Clamp can't be cranked any harder. Please help??

If you’re talking front they should just go back in with your C clamp with minimal effort. You could try opening the bleeder screw sometimes that makes it easier. If no matter what you try and it still doesn’t go back, replace the caliper it’s likely seized?
If we’re talking rear calipers and the parking brake is part of the caliper; you’ll have to apply pressure to the piston and at the same time turn (rotate) the piston in its bore. There is a one way clutch assembly inside the caliper that holds the piston out and the parking brake uses this assembly to apply the brake pads mechanically.
There is a tool designed to do this; it can be done without it but it can be difficult.
