2001 Mit Mont Sport 3.0 alternator problems

I have gone thru 8 alternators in 7 years. They just stop working. Any ideas on the problem. Some people said I could have a ground short somewhere.

Any aftermarket equipment such as radio amplifiers or anything that could use large amounts of current?
What was the part that failed on the alternator?
Are the replacements new or reman alternators?
Has the battery been tested?
Is there anything leaking onto the alternator such as oil or coolant?
