2001 Honda Accord EX V4 about 140k mi check engine light came on took it up and got a free code readout, stated 5 problems 4 of which where only for the vtech engines as mine is not it left the blocked oil passage code. i checked the oil on the dipstick and after wiping it came out dry which leads me to believe that the blocked passage is in the return i do not know where to look but i am capable of repairing almost any situation after being diagnosed i will check back actively if you need any more info

You wouldn't have codes for a system the car doesn't have unless you have made modifications. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

1st thing would be to post the codes that were retrieved. I'm assuming you meant 4 cyl & not V/6 but either way both of those have variable valve timing actuators. The biggest problem with those is the screen gets plugged up. You can clean the screen but it's best to change out the whole solenoid. If there is no oil on the stick then more than likely you are very low on oil. It would be almost impossible for the engine to be so plugged up that 4 qts of oil couldn't make it from the head back into the pan. So that being the case, it sounds like timely maintenance has been neglected on this car and that does lead to valve timing solenoid problems along with more serious mechanical problems. If the head was so plugged up oil couldn't get to the pan......Once again.......neglect would be the culprit......

They don't need to ask anything. The car knows what equipment it has and won't set codes that don't apply.

OK, that car did come with a Vtec engine so if you don't have one, that may be your whole problem. Here is the flow chart for that code ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Notes: You've found dipstick dry. No oil available to be pumped thru engine is about the worst thing to an engine. Sounds sludged out. Look under oil filler cap for what you can see. Should be just light coffee stains and NO build up of sludge. I don't know of a way to save a sludged out engine. Take a valve cover off and you'll really get the story. Could be "Game Over" for that engine, T

From what I see, not many people are timely on maintenance as far as right down to mile or month it's due...... It happens, so you are pretty much the norm..... Just as long as you don't go way way over.... Like a Kia that came in for it's 1st oil change with over 90k on the clock. The tech couldn't put oil in it....Pulled the v/c and the sludge made a perfect mold of the v/c on the head.... With yours, more than likely the screen is plugged. This is common. you can just R&R the valve clean the screen and you should be good. The solenoid also fails on these & the rate is high enough that I don't just clean screens... You clean the screen for $40 and month later the solenoid fails.......Guess who gets blamed.......

this problem has been fixed, thank you for yoru help. i tried to take the valve cover off to check for sludge, after allt he bolts vaccum hose and pvc valve i still couldnt get it off, so i tried to drain oil i got about a quart and a half that came out, after it all drained, i poured like a shot of new oil in the top to see if it would fall thru, it did so i didnt have a blockd passage on the return i figured, then i just changed the filter added oil reset the engine light and it never came back on... aparently alot of the time this error pops its simply out of oil. i was gunna drop my oil pan to clean the screen but after looking at how rusted the exaust was that kept me from dropin it i realized i couldnt drop it cause IF i was able to brake the bolts free i doubt i could have got them back on it was pretty crazy. anyways i let it run for about 15min and the light didnt kick back on i cant believe thats all it was...

The VTEC valve works off oil pressure so even having the wrong weight oil can set a code and cause a problem with that system.

As HT mentioned, this works off oil pressure so the wrong weight or being too low can cause this...... I'm glad you didn't try to tackle the screen I mentioned because I guess I was too vague. The screen I'm referring to is on the VTEC valve. It's on the backside of the head by the Dist....Takes about .5 to R&R the valve... Man I'm glad you didn't pull the pan.........oops........ Glad to hear you got it going.......
