2001 Ford Ranger Battery Gauge Problems Sign In

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger 3.0.

During the rainy seasons when I hit puddles my belts would start squeaking and everything would go dim, my steering would lock up, and my battery gauge would go down to about 10%.

Then, last night I get in my truck after a downpour and now this problem is permanent. The gauge now stays low, my battery light was flashing below 2000 rpm and above 3500 rpm, the ABS light came on, and everything flashed for a sec, then all electricity turned off while the car was idling, even the tachometer dropped to zero.

After getting a jump start it worked for about 20 minutes, then went back to losing power again. So I stopped, turned it off, restarted, and the gauge was fine for another 5 minutes, then of course it lost power.

The belt seems tight, I was thinking maybe the battery or alternator may be the problem. I bought this truck used about 2 years ago and haven't had to replace any parts just yet.

I couldn't find another thread like this, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat.

Alternators are fairly common. You can have that one tested to be more sure,

Sweet. I replaced the alternator and now it works just fine. Had to buy another battery also because mine was drained.

Thanks for your quick response and professional advice.Cool

Glad to hear it. It's actually nice to have a new battery with the new altenator as they do work with each other and can hurt each other when and if problems happen,
