Could be a dirty/sticky IAC motor (Idle air control) which controls idle speed by allowing more air into the intake. Most of the time, it can be just cleaned. On the other hand, you may have an engine misfire that is causing the roughness. The IAC motor can be removed and cleaned manually. This is a very easy operation, using spray carb cleaner. Most any repair shop should be able to do this for you. Would that have anything to do with it? The first order would be to find out what is causing the noise.
