2001 Chevy Cavalier 2.2l Fuel Delivery HELP PLEASE!!! Sign In

Hey all. I'll try to be concise and detailed with my questions. I really appreciate any help I can get.
2001 Cavalier 2.2 4dr
Started just fine and drove about 50 miles to my destination.
The next morning it would not start.
It turns over and gets spark but will not start.
I CAN hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the key.
Removed the fuel line running into the fuel pressure regulator and cranked motor over - no fuel coming to front of car.
Dropped tank, replaced fuel pump.
I can hear it prime when key is turned.
Still won't start.
Still no fuel to the front of the car.
Removed hose from the input of the fuel filter - turned key, pump primes, crank motor and no fuel comes out of the fuel tank.
The fuel pump relay tested good.
All fuses are good.
I am really perplexed as to why there is no fuel coming out of the fuel tank????

Now I am at a loss of what to do. Could there be something really simple that I am missing?

Thank you all SO much in advance for any help - this thing has been kicking my ass for 3 days and it's the only transportation my girlfriend and I have between us. Bumming rides is starting to piss people off.

Thanks again.

You need to back up and do what you should have done in the first place and that is put a fuel pressure gauge on it and find out exactly what the fuel pump is doing. If you hear the pump run and yet no pressure on the gauge, then you probably messed something up on the pump installation.

There was no fuel coming to the FPR before or after the new pump went in. We didn't check the pressure, but when we disconnected the fuel line before it went into the fpr, there was no fuel flow.

I suspect you were opening the line after the regulator. That's why you need to use a fuel pressure gauge on the service port.

I really wish that was the case, but it was definitely the input line to the fpr. Regardless, I am really weirded out that there isn't even any fuel coming from the tank. The fuel filter in this car is right next to the tank on the bottom of the car. We completely removed the fuel filter and left the lines disconnected and there was no fuel flow. It was doing the exact same thing before and after the new pump went in. I don't think the pump was the issue at all since the car has all the same symptoms and noises(pump priming hum) before AND after the new pump was installed.

OK, if you disconnected the line right at the regulator, then you were disconnecting the return line, not the feed line.

If you disconnected the filter, heard the pump run and didn't see fuel, then you need to pull the tank back down and see what you messed up on the pump. I doubt it's defective if it's running.

AH! You got me there! I really thought we were disconnecting the input. I guess we'll have to pull the tank again, but I am still confused as to why we would have no fuel before AND after the pump install. The old pump sounded the exact same as the new one when we turned the key over. Ugh.

Check the little rubber connecter between the pump and the tube very closely. The pump can be running and the fuel pumping right back into the tank.

Thank you VERY much for your responses yesterday.
I disconnected all the hoses before I started taking the tank down. When I had backed the tank strap bolt out about 1/2", gas came spraying out of the fuel line. Turns out it was just pinched under the tank.
The car runs fine again.
I just wanted to log on here to say thank you for your responses. They were VERY much appreciated.
