2000 pontiac grand am se 2.4L starts at around 2000-2400 rpms after sitting for a period of time(ive only noticed the problem overnight). After about a minute or two it will idle down to normal (about 1000 rpms) But it will not do it after being ran just once(ex: start up in morning with high rpm, go to work, start up again to go home, doesnt do it). It also has a slight fluctuation on idle, almost like a vac leak.

Check engine light on? If so, what code(s) numbers are being stored?

You should check for vaccum leaks when the engine is cold. Best thing to use would be a smoke machine to find the leak because you don't need the engine running to see it. Call around some shops in the area to see if they can check it out for you.

It may be normal for it to a have a high idle speed when first started cold in the morning, so keep that in mind.

It seems to happen in the morning on the way to work. Usually the same place or it just stumbles like its gonna stall then gets going. I assume if its a vacuum leak it will just get worse and give out?
It starts right back up too. Sometimes i can go a week and it wont do a thing. Then stalls one days and goes another week.

Ok your first post you stated it idled high during a cold start.

Now you saying it intermittently stalls out?
Is the high idle intermittent also?

I think that poster got confused and posted to the wrong thread. He has a thread about a 2000 Impala with similar issues.
