Hey all, I'm new, I'm from alaska, I farm full year round and build houses in the summer, don't have much money, so I do a lot of improvising. I'm only a member of one forum (a hunting one) so if this is the wrong place, just pass it by.

I have a 2000 kia sport age that the rear coil springs broke on, but the replacement part is 60 bucks, (from the junk yard, none the less!)
so, cause they are broke I can't measure them to see the dimensions, but I found some tracker spring on ebay for fairly cheap so I was wondering if they are close enough to get by. I have no problem jerry rigging something as the car has 225,000 miles, leaks a quart of oil every few days, brakes lock up and I could talk for an hour about all the things that don't work, you may ask why I am replacing it, well, the back drags in the snow if we get much and it bottoms out any time I go over the slightest bump.

so, what do ya think? I am not sure what tracker springs even look like, a friend of mine totaled his but sold it before I had the chance to go out and see if the spring would work.

Thanks, Cameron

Ps.my brother has a 92 ranger frame that he said I could take the front coil springs out of but I think they might be to big, to tall, but hey, then I might get a free lift out of the deal.....have one of them mexican cars, then I could put big tires on it to, See, NOW were getting somewhere!.....Hmmmm Wink

Springs don't simply interchange from one vehicle to another. You have to get springs for your make and model.

ya but if there is a spring that is, for example 13 inches high with 4 inch bases and the springs from my kia are 12inches with 4 inch bases, I'll put um on cause it don't have to look pretty, it don't have to look smooth, it can look like a dying duck, its just gotta get me to work and back its not like shooting the wrong bullet out of the gun, springs aren't ganna explode the car, ya know what I mean? No disrespect intend to you as I'm sure most folks here are smarter than me.

All those dimensions mean nothing. The spring rates are different, the wire size, saddle shape and style will be different. Seriously, if you can't afford a pair of used springs, you just need to park the car. The life you take may not be your own.

I just did a used parts search and found a bunch of these
from junk yards all over .
From as low as $20 .
Doubt shipping will be too much...

Also Googled ' parting out kia sportage ' -and - ' parting out kia sportage criagslist '
Found a few vehicles this way too.
These you'd have to call for price and availability
Just dont know who to trust on CL and most wont ship...

Saw one up near Seattle/Portland area

Also found one in Lexington Ky.....
If you crack open a bottle of Makers Mark, once the aroma gets up into the jetstream and wafts its way
southeast across Ky, you may be able to get one of the mods here,WAY2OLD to personally deliver it to you.

Hunting and Makers Mark...I've got a hundo that says he on his way alreadyTongueCool

It costs more than 60 bucks to gas the thing up. You leak 60 bucks worth of oil every few weeks. Your brakes don't even work right. If 60 bucks is too much money to fix the vehicle that goes near other human beings, its time to either shop for a good car, shop for a pair of walking shoes, maybe try to get a moose to take a saddle and bit. Something other than rolling around without giving a damn about the fact your car may very well kill someone someday. There's got to be a rich guy somewhere who needs a kidney if money is that tight.

actually I get all my oil used stuff that people change every 3000 miles. I have right friends that actually do that...

it costs 40 to fill it up.

Do you know what its like to work 12-14 hours a day 6 months out of the year and still only have 250 bucks in your bank account by the time you start working enough to pay all the bills again.....

I hate to say it but I can't get a new car, jeez, I know all the tricks to the car to make it totally safe. here in may after I recover from my surgery (next wednesday cause I got a hernia this summer) I think I cane to another forum with a bunch of rich guys......I think I'll leave perhaps.

a tracker is the same size car, so the spring temperament and all that stuff would be the same. the only difference would be height and width, the height wouldn't matter all that much, if its a few inch taller or shorter, it would still be better than having one spring almost full size and only having a few inches on the other. cause I betchya think that thats un safe too and it'll kill somebody.

Rich guys? I assure you far from it. My money pays for my tools and child support with precious little left over. I've blown enough on a toolset to buy 2 Sportages brand new in the last 8 years and its rare to see a day I'm not working OT. You aren't getting it. A Tracker is of SIMILAR PHYSICAL SIZE to a Sportage and thats where the similarities end. Between different vehicles of the same manufacturers there are differences in the very mounting shape of a spring. And I doubt you pay 40 to fill it up unless you're using a tank from a skiff. I was born and raised in Alaska and I damn well know what the difference in price is. If you're farming you're in the Mat-Su borough. If you deal anything at all with pelts then FurRondy is right in your neck of the woods and the perm fund checks will be by in due time. Fix the thing right.

Used oil? Springs from the wrong car. Buddy, you are on the wrong forum. As a matter of fact, you're on the wrong planet. I'm sure glad you and your accident waiting to happen (car) are both sitting up in that frozen tundra you call a state.

Go ahead and put those Tracker springs on, so the first bump you hit at 60 mph the springs fly out and go through someone's windshield as your truck bottoms out and flips about 10 times in which a hernia won't mean shat because they'll be scrapping your ass off the road with a snow shovel.

Stay out of Anchorage with that thing. If my aunt calls my because a Frankensteined korean turd ran into her I assure you I'll be on the next flight to see your dumb ass. I haven't spent as many years locked up as I have because I play well with others.
