2000 chevy cavalier

Our cavalier is not getting fuel under the hood. The motor is firing but will not start. We can hear the fuel pump working. Could it be the fuel filter? Any other ideas of what it could be?

Yes it could be a plugged fuel filter but it would have to be completely plugged before the car wouldn’t at least start and I think you would have had derivability issues before that as in a loss in power.
I know you said that you could hear the fuel pump running but that doesn’t mean it’s producing the pressures that are required.
During cranking there should be 40 to 50 psi being delivered to the fuel injectors.
If you do have fuel pressure you’ll have to check whether the injectors are being fired.
To check the two things I mentioned you’re going to need equipment and have an understanding of how the system works, so unless you’re will to jump into this with both feet I suggest taking the car in.
The one thing that is relatively easy to do is checking the fuses, you may have one that has blown and shut down a part of the system.
