2000 Taurus--Radio problems. Sign In

Gonna post this here so all you experts can get a shot at it. We have the above mentioned vehicle that sometimes the radio will not shut off when the ignition is turned off. We removed the front unit and it kept playing. Removed rear unit with front plugged in and it shuts off with key on. So we replaced rear unit. It shuts off when the ignition is turned off------------------------------sometimes. We unplugged TR sensor and it continues to play. We have a couple of choices left. The front unit or possibly the ignition switch. We can turn the radio off and then turn the key off and it stays off. None of the stereo controls work when the key is off. Just continues to play when ignition is off. If anyone wants to drive here and fix it, come on down and I will buy the steak dinner and drinks. As always, any input is welcomed and appreciated.

Hey W2O, here is my 2 cents.

The power wire may have constant power going to it. Go to back of unit, identify power wire (usually red) cut it, tie off where ever it was getting power from, then run new power wire to either cigarette lighter, or accessories harness in the ignition. This will save time looking for the problem.

There are 2 constant hot power sources to the units. One feeds the front unit, and the other feeds the rear. Problem is, not sure which unit is the cause of problem. I am about certain it is the rear unit or power to it, because the radi0o will stop when the rear unit is unplugged. But, I also thought a new rear unit would cure the problem.
