2000 Malibu Fuel Issue Sign In

My car will be going fine down the highway, then all of a sudden, it loses rpm as I pull over the side of the road, before I can get stopped, it dies. If I sit there 3-5 minutes, the car will start back up and I can go from 4 days to less than a mile before it does it again....... It's not a consistent amount of time or miles inbetween it doing this....The last time it did it today on the way home, my check engine light came on for the first time, and now is staying on. Is it my fuel pump, filter or just water in my gas.... ??? HELP!!!!!

Water in the gas can cause this problem. You would notice a direct relationship to the temp outside though with these symptoms.

Get the code read. It can only help lead the way to the fix.

The water can just be from condensation build up over years and if that's the problem using fuel drying, dry gas that claims moisture removal will work if not too bad. If bad enough tank would have to be removed. In any case a new fuel filter will help and if water found in it plan on yet another after the problem is gone to clear the slate,
