Every time I go to pump gas in my 2000 Hyundai Tiburon, it will not take but small amounts at a time. The first thrust will accept around $1 then only in $.20-$.40 increments after that (and that's after waiting about 20 seconds between pumps). If I try to thrust more gas in it after the handle pops, any extra amount will flow out onto the ground. Please note that my car is always on or near empty when this occurs. This is a serious problem as it prevents me from being able to drive long distances, which prevents me from being able to see my daughter.
After researching the problem online and talking to several mechanics, I was fairly certain the problem would be the Charcoal Cannister. However, today I completely disconnected the incoming and outgoing lines from the charcoal cannister (completely disconnected it from the gas fume exhaust system) but this did not help or hurt the problem either way. I've tried opening up the small line that runs beside the main fuel intake line (seems like a fume exhaust line leading to the head where the gas nozzle is inserted) towards the head but that did not help either.
After removing those lines, I contacted the dealer's mechanics and they seemed perplexed by this and kept saying that it is my charcoal cannister. I disagree but I do not know what option would be next. Please relay any insight that you would have into fixing this problem...

When you disconnect the charcoal canister were there any charcoal pellets falling out? Disconnect the canister and shake it to see if any charcoal comes out. They were known for the foam inside the canister deteriorating and allowing the little pellets to go through the holes in the vapor plate. Then they get dispersed into the system clogging up the vent valve and OVR system.
There is a liquid/vapor separator in the system. If you disconnect the line at the separator that goes to the top of the fuel tank and you still can't get fuel in, you may have a problem with the fill vent valve in the gas tank or the line from the vapor separator to the fuel tank is clogged. The liquid/vapor separator should be mounted to the fuel filler neck.
There is also the possibility of a restriction in the filler tube. Check for kinked hoses.

I had this on a Ford van. About 2 lbs of sugar poured in the filler tube. It would take gas but only small gulps at a time. Sugar wil not disolve in gas, so it turns into a block. It can not get into the engine because it can't go through the strainer in the tank nor the in-line filter, but because it clumps, it blocks the filler tube and in the tank, the strainer.
I would pull the filler tube to see what, if any, blockage you have.
