2000 Ford Taurus-Fuel pump does not engage right away when key turned on	Sign In

When key is turned on fuel pump does not engage right away and car will not start but does try. After several minutes (approx. 10 min) of leaving key in on position, you will her the fuel pump and car will start. Have replace fuel pump, relay, EGR valve, and fuses. What next?

The computer on these cars also have a part in the fuel system circut. It could just be a loose connection at the brain box.

Here's a wild stab at what might snap this out of that bad mood. Disconnect neg battery cable and turn on headlights and wait. Shut off the lights and hook it back up and it might have a new attitude. Shouldn't hurt but AYOR,

Ford has had a lot of problems with the ignition switches over the years. It may be that the switch is nor properly adjusted and not connecting properly. Reach up under the dash on top of the steering column and you will feel a big bunch of wires. This will be the switch. Wiggle the wires to see if it helps any. If it does not, check the fuel p-ump relay. If you don't have the owners manual. Go to www.fleet.ford.com Click on maintenance tab, then click on owners manual. Enter the information and click submit. Give time to download then go to roadside emergencies and look to the fuses and circuit breaker section.

And if none of the advice helps, Try a gallon of gas and a match. It want do the car any good but you'll feel better.
