Hey everybody. I know nothing about cars and found this board on Google and thought this might be the perfect place to get a question answered. I have a 2000 Honda Civic that has been sitting for almost 2 years now without being used due to the fact it was suddenly unneeded. I want to rehab it and get it into operating shape. I had a buddy jump the battery but the car started smoking (out the exhaust) and I decided to cut it before anything horrendous happened. It seems the battery won't hold a charge as nothing happens when I turn the key now. What do I need to do to get this sucker back up and running?

You should not have tried to start it! The gasoline is OLD and needs to be removed and fresh gasoline added. Gas starts to go bad after a couple of months. Change the oil. Get a new battery. Check the fuel filter for debri. Probably be besr, if you can, to have it towed to an auto shop for service.
