2.7 Engine Sign In

I always hear the bad things about the 2.7 and the sludge problem. (After I bought one).

Even read stories about those who changed the oil with synthetic every 3,000 miles and they still had a ruined engine anywhere from 50,000 to 65,000 miles.
Does anyone know of a 2.7 engine that lasted 100,000 + miles without it shucking out?

If so, what was their oil changing routine.

I have read that Chrysler corrected the sludge problem with the 2003 and newer engines. However, there are websites that say the problem still exists. Mine is a 2004.

I posted a few questions concerning the sludge problem last summer on this website. I thought I had a good oil changing routine for the car. However, after visiting with a mechanic last week, I just want to know if anyone has had excellent luck with this particular engine.

Any info. would be appreciated.

Re: 2.7 Engine Sign In

I haven’t heard a whole lot of good on these engines either? From what I’ve seen here with my customer that have them I don’t think there’s any type of oil or oil change regiment that will make these a high mileage engine.
Synthetic oil and keeping it clean is going to slow down the ticking bomb but short of replacing the timing chain and cleaning the oil passageways that lubricate the chain at about 50 or 60K it’s still going to go BOOM.
This isn’t a documented repair just my thoughts on this powerful little engine that can push the vehicle quite well down the road; it just can’t do it for very long without some serious attention.
