2.2 Litre 4 cyl 97 S-10 Interference engine? Sign In
Need to know if a 1997 Chevy S-10 2.2 4cyl. is an interference engine. Looking at one for sale cheap, owner says it needs timing belt ( I believe it's a chain ) the truck is nice with no rust and 120,000 miles, so it would make a great parts chaser! Craig

No I don't think this is a interference motor. Also I think it dose have a belt.

yes it is a interferance engine if it needs a timing chain it has also probly bent the exhaust valves

These are good questions for the dealership, the service counter guys can look it up and even spit out the part # and bel or chain info at no cost to you, use the phone and save your gas.

It shows a chain and doesn't mention interferrence or not in this instruction guide. Chains rarely break off clean like a belt can but would likely jump a tooth or more till it wouldn't run before interferrence occured if it was,
