The blower only works on 4 and we have had this problem before and replaced the resistor and we have replaced the blower motor before. The problem is water keeps getting down in there and causing it to quit working. Last time we replaced it, we sealed around where we thought the water was coming and it has been ok for quite awhile but I know that is probably the problem again. Can anyone tell me what we can do to keep the water from getting in there?

The hard part will be to guess exactly where water can get in and wreck the resistor. Check everywhere you can and also know there's a small snorkel/rubber tube that allows water out for A/C water (condensate) for that purpose that can clog and might not show up in off season so well. Some water may collect there from whatever and be a tad too high - can't say if you don't see water from A/C which requires the right humidity and season for it. If you find the elbow rubber hose just pinch on it to see if it's plugged or blow air into it - probably near impossible to do that. A neat sealer for water that tolerates heat and cold AND is removable is "removable caulking" comes like spaghetti and you can shape it like putty. One brand is hardware store stock look like this.... There's also specific A/C rubber sticky tape and you may want to go that far but I think you can fix this with hardware store type stuff. There are real duct tapes that will list heat rating/tolerance and must not get brittle to cracking when cold either. If it helps - most water leaks or any fluid leaks for that matter are coming from the highest and furthest forward of suspect areas in automotives given air speed over the car and air flow over the engine, T

Here is a bulletin that may apply.... File In Section: 08 Body and Accessories Bulletin No.: 01-08-57-003 Date: September, 2001 TECHNICAL Subject: Heater Blower Inoperative or Water on Passenger Floor (Install Sealing Strip) Models: 1999-2001 Oldsmobile Alero 1999-2001 Pontiac Grand Am Condition Some customers may comment that water drips on the front passenger floor or that the heater blower is inoperative in cold weather. Cause This condition may be caused by water entering the fresh air inlet to the HVAC case due to poor sealing of the air inlet screen to the fresh air inlet opening. Correction 1. Open the hood and remove the windshield wiper arms. 2. Remove the air inlet screen panel and replace the foam seal. Refer to illustration above. 3. Inspect the cowl drain holes located at each end of the cowl. They should be open and free of debris. 4. Reinstall the air inlet screen. 5. Make sure the lip on the lower windshield lace sits on top of the air inlet screen panel when installing the air inlet screen. 6. Reinstall the windshield wiper arms.
