1999
dodge avenger
2.5L V6
197k miles

so for the last year i have replaced my rotors and brake pads three times, the last time which was about 4 months ago i replaced the caliper rotor and brake pads, and the front end suspension, and still experiencing rotors warping. I can feel the shaking through the steering wheel, and not sure how to check the rotors themselves if it really is my rotors warping, or something else causing the vibration through the steering wheel, it is only felt when braking.

The rotors warp easily within the first month, the only other thing i can think of that might be doing this is that my rear drums are going bad, and sound like they are getting really bad. Now that its warming up I'm gettin to work on my car.

Use to work just fine back in 2008 when i purchased the vehicle, i never brake hard, hit any curbs.

If it has rear drum brakes, make sure they are adjusted correctly.

sorry I should have also mentioned, that my rear drums make a bad scraping sound when braking so im guessing that means ill need to get new ones soon? or would they just be needing to be adjusted like you said.

You gotta be kidding! Your rear brakes are grinding and you are continuing to drive it and complain about the front warping? You need to get the car into a reputable shop for a complete inspection and repair. If you can't afford to do that, then you just need to park it before you kill someone.

Get new ones soon? Please say that was a joke. When they squeal its time for them soon. When they grind it means you ignored all warning signs and drove around a deathtrap in a state of ignorance. Grinding only comes from metal on metal contact. You burn up the fronts because they are the only thing stopping your car anymore. Your now need brakes front and rear. Park your car until this has been done and cost be damned. Funerals cost more than brake jobs, and its the other guy you hit that you will have to pay to bury.

I guess you're assuming that's all it needs. Another big mistake.

Calipers, rotors/drums, hoses, master cylinder, parking brake cables or hardware and numerous other possibilities. That's why you need a professional when it comes to brakes.

Re: 1999 dodge avenger Rotors Warp within 5,000 miles Sign In

There are many things that can stop your car. Brakes that work, large trees, semi trucks. The latter ones get a bit messy and usually are utilized when you don't have the first one. I'd get a pro to look this over to be sure of what you need. You can always opt to do the install yourself to save some coing but brakes are something that absolutely must be right on a vehicle. Good choice taking that bus today.

Nope, and if you kill someone on the highway because you messed with a safety item that you weren't qualified to work on, you won't have any money or freedom either.

He's just looking out for your safety and other driver's on the road. Brake are a serious thing and must be done correctly. If you do mess around with the brakes do one side at a time. Use the other side as an example as to how things should look when it is put back together. Then have your Dad come out and check to make sure that everything is installed correctly. Don't make the mistake of driving your car to see if everything is installed correctly.

It's not a bad thing to learn how to do brakes or work on other parts of the car. Just have someone with experience and/or training verify your work. And don't be afraid to ask any questions.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Re: 1999 dodge avenger Rotors Warp within 5,000 miles Sign In

Good news everyone, turns out my back brakes were rotors and calipers which was great made the switch a snap. The brake pads were metal on metal with the rotor, and dug a beautiful groove in the rotor. The severe wobble from braking is no longer present and my car drives and feels great.
Now tomorrow to put in new valve cover gasket and spark plug seals. even more exciting!!!

Any tips are appreciated, and yes my step dad checked over everything i did.

Did you replace the rotors? Were all 4 pads worn equally?

Re: 1999 dodge avenger Rotors Warp within 5,000 miles Sign In

i replaced the rotor brake pads and caliper, the inner pad up against the piston was just metal on metal while the outside pad still had padding, becauase of that i figured i should replace the calipers because the piston was not retracting properly
