2.2 187,000 my car , a 1999 cavalier with 2.2 engine and 187,000 miles, was kind of puttering and sounded like it wanted to stall. we changed the spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter and it ran good for several days . now about a week later it is kind of hesitant when i take off from a stop sign or red light but has never stalled and now tonight it is raining and the ets light came on. it didn't stay on but came on and went off several times and did stay on for several blocks. any ideas.

Start out by retrieving any stored trouble. The auto parts store will do it for free. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

if only ets light then parts store may not be able to read.they have generic scan tools.if check engine light never came on then you probably are not going to have any stored codes in pcm memory.the ets codes are stored in bcm.

We aren't going to know that until he checks, now are we? With symptoms like that, he should be setting some codes.
