1999 Silverado - Intermittent lack of power after start

Hello everyone. Vehicle details: 1999 Chevy Silverado 4.8L ~136,000 mi This is kind of a difficult problem to explain as it is not constant. Occasionally, my Silverado will act like it's not getting any fuel or air to the engine when I start it after it's been sitting for awhile. When I press the gas, there will be a lack of response from the engine, and often times the engine will almost die or will die until I back off the pedal. This doesn't happen very often, but this week I am in a higher elevation (about 7000ft compared to 1000ft) and it is happening worse than ever. This morning when I started it, the engine couldn't even rev up to idle and it died. When I restarted, it seemed to idle better. I am at a loss to explain what this is because it only happens when the engine is cold. Once I've been driving it around for a bit, the problem goes away. I was thinking it could be an O2 sensor, but shouldn't the ECM be running in open loop until the engine is warm? I've also replaced the EGR valve, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, and cleaned the MAF Sensor in an attempt to fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The first thing I would look at is fuel pressure. These systems are super sensitive to pressure and a loss of only 5 pounds can cause that. Try to rig a fuel pressure gauge so you can observe it while driving to watch for a pressure drop. The spec is Fuel System Pressure Key On Engine Off 55-62 psi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Well I went to go buy a new ECT sensor since it's only about $15, and on the way back my truck just decided to quit working. Now I can hardly even idle and the truck just sputters and dies if I try to give it gas. This is making me lean more toward a fuel system issue... maybe a bad fuel pump? I'll end up having to take it to a shop though because I'm 2.5hrs away from home.

The fuel pump is what I was leaning toward also but checking the fuel pressure is the first step. I don't think the temp sensor is going to do anything for you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Ok, thank you for your advice. I wish I had my fuel pressure gauge up here, but I was going to wait to do that until I got back home tomorrow so I didn't have to pay someone to do it. Unfortunately it's looking like I don't have a choice now.

So it ended up being the fuel pump. I'm just irritated that I have to pay someone to install it since I can't drive my truck over 150 miles home.
