Right now pull all plugs and crank out the water if it will at all. Put WD-40 in plug holes and crank. If it cranks at all and sounds fair there is a chance. Check all fluids for water. Water in oil or oil reading too full it probably crunched a piston and or bent up stuff. Put the plugs back and see if it will run at all. If the engine was reving at much more than just idle speed when this happened it's probably game over for that engine. It would choke and buck and billow steam out exhaust if you get it running but would quit that. If it can't / won't run the WD-40 buys you some time for investigating further. If rust gets on cyl walls which can happen quickly it will ruin the chances. This is only a chance for this engine and you won't know right away how much more there might be to do,

Removed plugs, drained water from cylinders, motor can't be turned over by hand completely. Couldn't crank with ingnition from incident. Battery, starter, alternator/regulator all replaced. Should motor turn freely? Limited distance or endlessly?

Ok: It wouldn't crank right away when this happened from just simple "hydraulic lock" and the starter would bust trying if the engine was locked up. How did you get the water out? With plugs out the water would have come out the spark plug holes when cranked either by hand (better choice) or with the starter. An engine is normally hard to turn by hand but you could with a flex bar and socket on crankshaft damper. If you have to fight way too hard to get a couple revolutions there probably is a problem.

Was part of doing this by mistake decades ago with storing cars by fogging them with oil down the carbs but a tad too much got used and when time to get them out of storage one was locked and pulling the plugs was all it took. That was oil and done for a reason though - not water and not to croak the engine.

Go forward and backward with plugs out till you get a full cycle around. It may have bent a rod or piston - can't really know exactly right now with yours.

This could easily be game over for that engine. It's worth a try. I've seen this type problem go either way. Near lived at a marina for years and now and then a boat or yacht would hit a rock and sink almost immediately. These would get 24 hour attention and pulled up - taken to marina and they would do CPR on the engines right away and most of the time they got them going and they lasted!! Well - after tons of work to the hull of the boat.

Keep trying. You might have to give up on it. Hope it works,

Appreciating the help. Standing water was removed with hand pump. When cranked over by hand, crankshaft rotated freely about 1/2 rotation back and forth to complete stops. Used ratchet, not flex bar. Not a lot of torque available. Crazy Does that sound right?

Are plugs OUT when you try this? Pistons are different locations up and down would make it hard to get all the water out by pump alone. Even cranking it out will miss some so when and if it runs it would smoke water vapor for a while but if all is ok that would stop,

Sounds to me like there is a bent rod. If the rods were not damaged, the motor would turn all the way over without too much effort.

Yes, plugs are out (eliminating any compression). Thanks for your time, thoughs, and advice. Direction can be difficult when you don't know where you stand.
