1999 Kia Sportage

1999 Kia Sportage intermittant starting problem, was there a factory recall? We missed it, was a used car. Mechanic says a sensor on flywheel isn't big (strong) enough, engine must be pulled and new sensors attached to flywheel. Any avoidance fixes? A good car otherwise.
