My truck has started to make a buzzing sort of vibration sound when I am on the highway. My husband thought it was the bearing on a wheel for the fan belt. He tightened it up, but, the sound is still there. When I hit around 80-90kms per hour, it seems to get louder. I think it might be the tranny or something other than the belt wheel. It goes loud and then it might quiet down a bit, but, it's still there. Any ideas? I'm grateful for any suggestions!! We're baffled! Thanks!

Does the sound change as you make a lane change or pretend you’re driving on a slalom course and as you’re making quick turns left and right does the sound go away or change in volume?
IF so it maybe a wheel bearing that’s starting to fail.
Noises are a hard thing to help with sitting here at a computer, not being able to hear what it sounds like but the best description I can give for what a failing wheel bearing sounds like, is the constant drone that a jet airliner makes while in flight. Urrrrrrrrrr. LOL

As Dan said so well - note whether the noise changes with steering. If not the vehs eat alternators or perhaps some other bearing that is belt driven. Hey this isn't easy without the veh in front of you, keep trying and get help if needed. Good luck,

Thanks guys for replying to my post. Anyway, I doubt if it's the wheel bearing because the sound doesn't change in my steering. When I'm in town and going slower, I can't hear or feel it. It's when I'm on the highway. I'm actually starting to feel it at 60kms per hour now too. But, it started off at about 90 kms an hour, I get the buzzing sound (almost like the Urrrrr sound you described). I can feel it in the steering wheel a little and in my gas pedal, but I hear it more than I feel it. When I let off the gas say down to 80, the buzz will go slow and loud and then stop. I put the gas on again, and the buzzing starts again. Maybe it is that bearing in the wheel of the fan belt afterall? Anyway, I have to travel about 20kms to work and back everyday, and I'm scared I'm going to break down one of these days. I just don't want a drive shaft or whatever come through the floor and kill me, or have my steering lock and go off a cliff! So, any advice you guys all give, I'll get hubby to check into. He's a pretty good repairman, but, I think he's stumped on this one. Thanks again! "Ocean" from BC, Canada
