1999 Audi A6 O2 Sensor CEL Sign In

I purchase this Audi last year for my wife who drives it only 2,000-3,000 miles a year. It looks amazing for 240,000 miles. The PO owned for 18 yrs and kept up with maintenance but the CEL has been on for 5 yrs.

It doesn't affect how it drives but I suspect the MPG would be better if I had the O2 sensors changed. The 2.8 V6 is not a race engine but it is fine for a grocery-getter. Other than the obnoxious light on the dash, it starts fine, runs and no indication of a problem.

I can't see spending $500 bucks to have the O2 sensors changed. Even if it increased MPG significantly, it would take 5+ years of less gas cost to break even. If I were younger than 78, I'd do it myself, but those days are gone.

Any thoughts on just driving and ignoring the CEL?

Where did you get the idea that it needed 2 0/2 sensors?

Have you even had the stored codes read?
