i turned my 1998 mercury grand maquee off and the key on back to were the radio only is on the when i went to crank it back up it wouldn't crank when u turn the key everything goes well except u don't hear the car crank the starter doesn't even turn i looked at the relays didn't appear to be anything wrong there even put a new one (EEC) in and still the 30amp fuse blows the particular fuse that is blowing according to the owners manual is the num 2 fuse in the power supply ( under the hood, it is a regular fuse not a big one) is for (#2, 30A*) Generator, Starter Relay, Fuses 15 and 18 that was copied from the manual.... before this happened there was never any problems cranking or any problem in the ignition system at all that i know of or that i could notice please help me

Starter motors on the 4.6 is placed where wiring corrodes badly! Take a look there,

the wires were ok however they looked kinda bad so i replaced them anyway to avoid future problems this really has me stumped

That's a useful repair so no loss really. Spray the area with something to slow or stop that corrosion.

Try checking voltage drop tests to see if that starter is drawing too much. TMK they too are a total pill to replace if needed - figures!

Disconnect the power wire to the alternator and see if the fuse still blows. These can short internally and cause that problem.

Interesting idea! I've have GMs go nuts internally with alternators but not a single Ford yet. I have had some Ford plugs to alt go bad and make a scene!

Just don't pull that trick of disconnecting a battery with engine runningWink
