1998 continental brake light wont go off

my brakes and lights were working fine. i came out off a ballgame to get in the car and the brake lights were on. battery had been drained. i am not sure what the switchis suppossed to look like but it does not seem broken. anyone know where i can find a parts blow p on line to check?

Not certain on Continental but it should have the switch right at pivot of brake pedal arm. You could unplug it to stop the drain if failed but it may not shift from park that way
Again - not certain for the exact model but Fords have used the same switch idea right at that pivot for ions even back to the early 70s at least! They can fail and leave lights on or be out of adjustment for some odd reason which might be apparent when seen,

i had it unplugged already so it wouldnt drain the battery but good advice. i will try replacing the switch. you are correct in that it is right at the pivot on the breake arm. i dont see how it would turn on and off since it moves with the pivot. update later

The one I'm thinking of looks like that. Not much of a switch just looking at it but it does sense pressure and against springs makes a connection and then of course supposed to release and disconnect. If unplugging it doesn't work that isn't the problem. If just two wires there it should just be 12v in on one side and out on other when pedal is pressed even a little bit. If that's accessible for you to test do so and pull up on pedal and see if it goes out. Then look to see if there's an adjustment to the contact area somehow but I don't think so on this kind. Pedal itself may have a problem returning to "full up" position and we can figure that out if so,

In several full size Fords these have been trouble with lack of spare wire and pull wires out at the plug fairly easily and so far all those the lights quit working and cars didn't shift out of park. Plug ends were replaced with the extra inch of wire they needed as the fix

thanks for the advice and the photos. I picked up and installed a new switch and that did it. a bit more expensive here in aalaska though at $22.00

I'm not surprised at that price - what I found was the AutoZone site and they discount certain items highly. Prices also vary on electrical stuff and some are worth paying more for. Glad it's fixed that easy.
