For a while now I have heard a noise when I shifted my 1998 chevy blazer v6 vortec automatic from reverse into drive. Oh it only has about 96,000 miles on it. I just used it to tow a trailer about 900 miles about 10 days ago. Now every time I accelerate I hear a metal on metal clicking/grinding noise until I hit about 20 mph. It doesn't make a peep as I'm slowing down. Please help this layman out.

Thanks!!

cshakespeare; U-joints can cause a 'clunk' when put into gear. They can make a squeaking noise that can be heard at low speeds. Generally, though, you'll get a vibration while slowing. I'd take a close look, anyway. Sometimes, you'll have to pull the driveshaft to find one that is binding. Again, since the noise goes away as you are slowing, I'd think that is when you'd hear a brake noise, but...I'd take a close look at the rear brakes and bearings. Good luck.
