1998 blazer over heating

my 1998 chevy blazer started to over heat today. I quickly turned the heater on full blast and the engine instantly started to cool down again. I made it back home ,waited awhile,and started the truck back up again . This time it started to over heat in my driveway,with the heat on. I am wondering if this is a sign of a bad thermostat,or something far worse. Thank you for your time.

There are dozens of possible causes for overheating. Your first step is to pressure test the cooling system for leaks and make sure the system hasn't sludged up from old Dexcool.
