1998 Mitsubishi Mirage hub removal

Hi, I have a 98 Mirage that I need to remove a front hub to replace a lug stud. I have taken it down to the point of removing the axle nut & still cannot get the hub off. I cannot get a service manual until tomorrow & was hoping to fix it tonight. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

If thats all you removed the hub isn't coming off...
It should have at least 3 mounting bolts attaching the hub assy to the knuckle that need to be removed.
I am not too familiar with the mitsu's..
I just looked up some info but all I can get is info for the Eclipse
Does your set-up look anything like this?
If so...here are some instructions......hope this helps...again this is for an eclipse....LET ME KNOW>>>>>>>
1995-98 Vehicles
See Figures 8 and 9
The front hub assembly is a sealed unit and should not be disassembled. -
Raise and safely support the vehicle. -
Remove the wheel and tire assembly. -
Remove and discard the driveshaft nut cotter pin. -
Remove the driveshaft nut, holding the rotor in place with a suitable tool. -
If equipped with ABS, remove the front wheel speed sensor. -
Unbolt the caliper assembly and suspend out of the way with a piece of wire. Do not disconnect the fluid line. -
Use a suitable puller to separate the upper control arm ball joint from the steering knuckle. -
Unfasten the retaining bolts, then remove the front hub assembly. Shift the knuckle to the outside in order to keep the clearance between the front hub mounting bolts and driveshaft. Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot. If equipped with ABS, be careful not to damage the rotor.

If steering knuckle removal is necessary proceed with the following steps. -
Unfasten the retaining bolts, then remove the dust shield. -
Remove and discard the cotter pin, then separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a puller. -
Use a suitable puller to separate the compression and lateral lower control arm ball joints from the steering knuckle. -
Unfasten the connecting nut and bolt of the damper fork and lateral lower control arm. -
Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.

To install: -
Position the steering knuckle in the vehicle. Install the connecting bolt and nut and secure hand-tight. -
Attach the lateral and compression lower control arm ball joints into the steering knuckle. -
Fasten the tie rod end ball joint to the steering knuckle, then install the retaining nut and tighten to 17-25 ft. lbs. (24-33 Nm). Install a new cotter pin and bend over securely. -
Install the dust shield and secure with the retaining bolt. 6.5 ft. lbs. (8.5 Nm). -
Position the front hub assembly, then secure with the retaining bolts. Tighten to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm). -
Fasten the upper control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. -
Install the brake disc (rotor) and caliper. -
If equipped, install the front wheel speed sensor. -
Install the driveshaft nut. Hold the rotor in position while tightening the driveshaft nut to 145-188 ft. lbs. (196-255 Nm). If the cotter pin holes does not match, tighten the nut up to 188 ft. lbs. (225 Nm) maximum. Install a new cotter pin in the first matching holes, then bend it over securely. -
Install the wheel and tire assembly, then carefully lower the vehicle.

Just thinking here...
A lot of times there is an access spot to replace a stud without removing the hub...
I'm not sure on Mitsu's..
But they do have a spot on most that the hub has to be turned/ positioned in a cetain way for removal and installation of the stud..
LQQk closely at it first... Cause sometimes it doesn't appear that way...
Just a thought....

Thanks for the reply. My setup is quite a bit different than the Eclipse. I have been told that I need a puller.

Thanks again, I'm gonna see if I can get it w/out removing the hub. It doesn't seem like I can, but I'll give it a try.

Too late to help, but I thought I would post in case anyone else has a similar problem. I just went through this ordeal myself.
I have a '97 mirage. I removed the tire, caliper, pads and pad mount, and rotor. Looking at the hub, the right side has access to slide the stud in from behind. It is a tight fit, and doesn't look like it will work, but it does. First, you'll want to lube up the new stud and a lug nut. Get the stud in far enough to reposition the rotor on the hub. When the rotor is repositioned, put a lug nut over the new stud. finger tighten it, then give it a few turns with the iron. This pulls the stud further into the hole, but not far enough. Take the nut off, place the tire over the rotor, replace the nut and tighten again. Eventually, the nut will pull the stud all the way through. Remove the nut again, remove the tire, reattach everything, and tah-dah! The stud is replaced without removing the hub or needing a puller.
I hope this helps somebody, I sure wish I had found something like this before I started!
