Hope you folks can help. I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier. It has a 2.2 engine with a 5 speed and has 110K miles on it. On hard surface roads the brakes are sticking a little. I.e: At a stop sign with a slight incline, the car will not roll at all with the clutch depressed. On a gravel driveway, you can barely touch the brakes and the left rear brake locks up (car skids). It seems to be worse when it rains and it has not been driven for a couple of days. Also, on my gravel driveway, one of the front brakes tries to lock up but not near as severe. These problems started after the car set for about 4 months. I do not feel comfortable driving this car until I repair this. Thanks in advance.

Obviously the first thing you have to do is inspect the brakes. Look closely at the rear brake shoes. They have a problem with these where they get small leaks in the wheels cylinders, just enough to moisten all the brake dust which embeds into the shoes causing them to stick to the drum. This can be recognized by the color of the shoes. If they are dark and shiny, they are likely contaminated and you will have to replace the shoes and wheel cylinders and resurface the drums.
