1997 subaru legacy

wagon 2.2 automatic. Speedometer quit working, check engine light now on and at oil temp light on at startup. obd code p1540. Mechanic says that code is idle speed control and speed sensor is ok. My manuel says its vehicle speed sensor malfunction. Car runs fine just no speedometer, do I need a new mechanic.

It's possible that you have an IAC problem, but need to correct the VSS problem, first. Several inputs depend on the VSS signal, such as trans. shifting.
