1997 chevy cavalier ignition key turns but no noise no starting	Sign In

I had to have a locksmith make me a new key this morning. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this or not. all interior and headlights exc. come on. theft light is on lights do not dim when i try to start it. I have tried to jump it left it connected about 15-20 min didn't get any results. Put some extra gas for good measure, and read a blog from someone with the same problem they said their car would start in neutral i tried that but no good. I also just got the battery in like august bought it new. I do not have that much expierence except for learning based on need. I just want to make sure its not something i can do before i spend alot of money i'm in college and a very remote area thank you for your time.

Do you have the original key? Does the original key start the car? Not sure if the 97 uses a security key or not. If it does, you need to have the key programmed. These are also known for the ignition switch down on the column failing.

Get the the battery tested. If it's good give the starter body a rap with a hammer.

Is the security light flashing or remaining on? Is there an AM alarm system installed on this car?
