1997 Grand Prix shuts off when slowing or stopping

My 1997 Grand Prix periodically shuts off when I am slowing down or stopping. The car restarts easily after shutting off. The problem occurs only periodically, but when it does occur, it usually occurs more than once in one trip. Right before the problem occurs, the RPMs go way down and the blower begins to blow less air. If I notice that this is going to happen, I can give the car more gas and it will remain running. The car is a 3.8L V6 with 106,000 miles. Any ideas about what might be wrong?
