1997 Chrysler Sebring overheating

While going through a drive-through, my car made a funny clunk sound while it was idling and then within a couple of hours, the engine overheat light went on. I took it to a repair shop and they stated I had a hole in my radiator and there was antifreeze all over. I put some Stop Leak in it filled it back up wtih antifreeze and water and that seemed to help for a day or so, but then the overhead light came back on. When I pulled into the gas station, the reserve tank for the antifreeze was full, but the engine itself took about a gallon of antifreeze. Could the thermostat be stuck or bad as to why the antifreeze went out of the engine and not allowed the reserve tank to be used?

The coolant from the reserve bottle didn't go into the engine because it is drawn in with suction and if there was a hole in the radiator, it will just suck air through the hole and not the coolant. Putting sealer in was definitely the wrong thing to do. It just plugs the whole system up and creates more problems. You now need to flush out the system and replace the thermostat and radiator and hope you didn't do more severe engine damage by overheating it.
