1997 Chevy Malibu wont start after short trip

I have a 1997 Chevy Malibu that's been acting up. It started jerking on start up little while ago, but that would quickly stop and it would run fine. Then it would stall out after starting up. It would start again on the second try. Now whenever I make a shortish trip (about an hour between start ups) it will jerk, stall, tthen will not start for 40 mins to 1 hr. Any ideas?

Get codes read first and post #s as possible.
You have time to do tests when it only cranks and doesn't start and understand it may not be where you can check things. I can't know yet but suspect lack of proper fuel delivery so perhaps prime throttle body with starting fluid to get to where you can do some tests as to what has fallen out WHILE it wont start.
