1996 taurus having problems with wheel bearing Sign In

2 weeks ago i had to have a rear break caliper replaced on my car and the next day, my car started making a loud noise coming from the rear of the car. I don't know much about cars to be able to describe the sound. A friend said that it was the wheel bearing. I checked different web sites and read up on it some and I think that may be the problem. the only answer that I can't find is what the cost should be to have the car put in a garage to have it fixed. if anyone could maybe give me a close idea to what it should be i would really appreciate it. last time i had a vehicle put in the garage, the were trying to overcharge me by more than $100 because I am a girl, I am guessing. Thank you if you can help me out.

Agree - you're guessing. There's no magic that a guy or girl knows more or less about mechanical things!

One problem is communication. Why was just ONE caliper replaced instead of normally in pairs usually as a complete rear brake job in this case? If cutting corners on brakes you are only fooling yourself. You can't know or I can't say this is a wheel bearing issue as I don't know the extend of what was done or why with the caliper.

Why was it replaced, symptoms and what other items were replaced with it? If that caliper was frozen (not working) and just a caliper replaced with old other parts then it probably would make noise grinding into rusted rotor that wasn't used for a while,
