1996 Tercel is LOUD

Hi There,
I have this amazingly reliable 1996 Toyota Tercel that I took the back seat out of. It got louder then, of course. Recently, however, it seems like there is a lot of noise coming from underneath the front seats. At first, I thought it was just the noise coming from the back with no seat to block it out but I have trouble with my ears and my mother insists that it's not coming from back there. The noise does not sound like a mechanical problem to me as in nothing is grinding, popping or dragging. It's just the sound of the car, amplified or non-muffled, as the case may be. I've had catalytic converter issues with other vehicles and this reminds me of that but I am NOT mechanically inclined, so I don't want to send my husband off to start tearing things apart without just cause. I really appreciate any help that can be given.

The only way you are going to find out is someone is going to have to put the car in the air and look for the noise. Those Toyotas have a little section of flex pipe that often rots out.
