1996 Buick Century ANTI-LOCK light comes on and says on Sign In

I've got a 1996 Buick Century with 110K miles on it. Last week the ANTI-LOCK light came on and stayed on. Brakes still worked normally but the light was on. When ever I turn the car off and turn it back on the light goes out, only to come back on after about 1 minute of driving. The last few days it almost sounds like I can hear a click under the hood like where the ABS module/Master Cylinder is just before the light flips on. Not sure where to go from here...

Thanks!

You can get a code reading to say the direction of what's wrong. Car should default to regular brakes when there's an issue. These
can be simple or nasty expensive but you should know why, fluid properly filled and make a decision on what to do as most places don't force you to have operative anti-lock brakes. Decide based on the observations and your desire to make them operative.

You may have rules where you are that mandate that they work - can't know for everywhere. Still they MUST feel and stop properly or that needs immediate attention,

I'll just add a basic rule of thumb that is by no means 100%

There are 2 basic areas outside of the wiring to look at. The module/motor area which is usually under the hood and the speed sensors at the wheels.

Most units will do a self-test on start up. If there is a fault in the system with in seconds of starting the car the light will come on due to the failure if it's in the unit area. Since the system can't test the speed sensors until the car starts to move, a lot of the time when you have a speed sensor fault, you'll start the car the light will be out and stay out until the car starts to move. Once in motion the unit detects the fault & turns the light on.....

This makes me think it's the WSS because the light only comes on after I drive about 100 feet or so... I'm wondering also, I just did front wheel bearings earlier this year and did a front brake job (Just new Pads/Rotors) about 3 weeks ago, I've read that some people have problems with throwing this light after a brake job for whatever reason??

Wheel bearings have the start wheel for the sensor so if wrong ones were used or they were messed up would think it would have set the light right away. Same with rotors and pads.

When doing pads on cars with ABS you really shouldn't just push the piston back to the master cyl but let it blow the fluid out the bleeder carefully not to lose integrity of it getting air in. Pushing back is putting junk back up thru more ABS stuff vs regular generally ends up clean. If junk got in the wrong place that could (can only guess) have caused the issue if done that way,

Yes, I think you are correct about the speed sensor being the cause. You will likely have to gets the codes read to determine which wheel it is. That car has a problem with the wiring to the front speed sensors breaking internally from all the wheel flexing they go through. The sensor is built into the hub bearing and many times doesn't correct the issue.
