We have a 1995 Saturn SC2, DOHC 4 cylinder with approx. 160,000 miles on it. We've got 2 seperate issues right now. Several weeks ago, the after market stereo quit working. It appears to still have power to it as the face plate lights up but nothing else on it works. This happened one other time right before the alternator died. We had the charging system checked and was told battery, alternator, etc... were fine. Fuses appear to be ok. Any ideas? Second question, the rear defroster on this car quit working last week. You can depress the switch on the dash and it will light up but goes off the second you release it. It will stay lit as long as you hold the button down and it seems to work that way (you can sense the additional load on the battery). But goes off as soon as released. Again, fuses seem ok. Could it be the switch itself or a timer associated with it? Sorry, not much of a mechanic and am hoping to come up with some affordable solutions. Thanks!

the aftermarket radio has probably got an internal short.
the defroster could be a bad switch. check the wiring to the defroster and the defroster element itself for any kinks/frays that could be shorting to ground.
