1995 Chevy Blazer Side View Mirror

My Chevy Blazer side view mirror is broken. The mirror is fine and the cable that is attached to the mirror is working because it is a power side view mirror. Only thing broken is the inside housing assembly because I knocked the mirror off myself by accident while I was shoveling near my truck. It wont pass inspection because of the mirror and I cannot afford to buy a new mirror and have it installed because its too much money. Is there a way that I can fix it somehow. For example, can I drill a hole on the outside and put a screw through it and then attach a nut on the end of the screw to hold it in tight? Please anything you can help me would be appreciated. I am at my wits end here and I keep getting tickets for inspection sticker. Thank you.
