I changed the fuel filter on my 1994 saturn SW-1 and then took it out for a test run and noticed that the odometer is reading fast aprox. 3.9 miles per 1 mile driven. It worked fine before the filter change. I have been wrenching on cars for many years now have never seen this before!! The speedo reads fine

I'm confused. Are you saying that it shows you've gone 3.9 miles when you've only gone 1 mile? Just in case it's a terminolgy thing; The Odometer shows miles driven. The speedometer shows vehicle speed. This is an electronic unit, which gets it's information from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). If the speedometer is accurate and the odometer is not, would have to be an issue with the speedo head. Check engine light on? Transmission shifting okay? Make sure that you didn't disturb wiring going to VSS when changing the fuel filter (assuming the filter is in the engine compartment). If it's under the car, near the fuel tank as most, then it's got to be just a coincidence. Loren SW Washington
