It only takes one good overheating to do that. Also another thing to check for would be an air pocket. Those have the t stat off the bottom hose & can be tough to get the air out. After it cools down check the level & see if it's very low... Without an airlift tool sometimes on those you have to warm them up 2 or 3 times to get all the air out......... Maybe a little background on the original problem would be helpful & exactly how far it was driven while overheating......
