start or crank? It makes a difference in the outcome of the advice you'll receive. Crank means the starter motor is operating and spinning the engine over. Start means the starter is spinning the crank and the engine fires up and runs. From your description is sounds like your starter isn't cranking the engine. Inspect the battery terminals. Make sure they are clean and tight. Then have the battery load tested to be sure it is good. If the battery checks out and the starter motor doesn't do anything, another trick is to tap on the motor with a hammer while someone holds the ignition in the start position. If the motor take off when you tap on it, the starter needs replacement or overhauling. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
