Just wondering if there is a way to help the engine save fuel.. Like getting a programmer and setting the computer up a different way.. I have done all else figure I would give it one last shot...I know its an older truck but I think me have a hole in me pocket when it comes to fuel....lol..
If you cant fix it then dont mess with it...

I've got a 95 Suburban with a 40 gallon tank in it. Cost me $110 to fill up the other day. I feel your pain. But short of basic maintenance and not having a heavy foot, there really isn't much of anything you can do to get better mileage. I know the internet is flooded with claims of simple things that yield incredible mileage, but bear in mind you likely also get spam mail claiming that a simple pill will make you need a third leg in your jeans. That doesn't work either. The mileage comes with the territory of a full size truck, and the only way it gets better is to drive something smaller.

Ditto - no magic tricks out there. Basics - tires to proper pressure, drive slower, accelerate gently, coast to stops as best you can help a tad. Seriously - don't believe the junk and trickery for a second. If that crap really worked it would be on the truck when new - think about that.
I own a Vortec 350 in a 2500 4X4 - best ever seen was 17.8 MPG -- downhill with a tailwind! I think it's registered as an oil importing entity! Need the thing though and have other vehicle to use when a truck isn't needed which is most of the time,

I once put every gas saving device being sold in a popular automotive catalog on my truck . I had to stop every 100 miles or so to siphon off the excess gas . For details send $25 CASH to.......

The 4.3 does do tons better around town. I rarely see 10 for short trips accumulated.
Wanna see real bad? Try an 800 Lb snow plow, back and forth (miles don't record in reverse) - a gallon just to warm the thing up, 2 gallons to plow out a 7 place area in 10 minutes, leave plow on for a couple days as you never know when a$$ hole city will plow you in again then go fill it up and see less than 5 MPG! Worth it at $20 bucks a gallon. Try shoveling that much and you wont complain. Tried to save once - didn't work out well
It's to work and it does. Trust me - the ambulance ride would cost more if I shoveled all that!

The Edsel couldn't carry itself around, forget the snow plow.

Well after reading all the replies I have come to one thing.. You guys needed a good laugh and seems a good break...
That being said I know these wanna be fly by night companies just want your money and in the end no results... Gas is heading towards 3.00 a gallon here so every penny I save the better.. We just traded 2 vehicles for a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan so I have no option on a back up vehicle...I would of gotten rid of this truck had I not spent so much on it lets list them
Rebuilt trans
New headlights and park lights plus tail lights
Spark plugs and wires
Distrubutor cap
New A/C
Dash Cover
Tinted Windows
New Oil Coolant lines
New exhaust system Dual
New Manifold
New Tires
This list does not include the smaller things
I could keep on guess I like older trucks better in the end maybe it will be worth it all if the wife dosent leave first lmao...Thanks guys I feel like a regular here hope thats cool?
If you cant fix it then dont mess with it...

I came in late into this thread, did a quick scan but didn't see any actually mpg that you are getting...
But I will say with the setup you have, you aren't going to get good gas mileage with this vehicle. It's just not gonna happen, it's not what it was designed for.
If you are getting 4 to 5 mpg and it's running bad is one thing. If you're in the teens, then that's as good as it gets....
If you don't need the 4x4 or a truck bed, keep your eye out for an okie in honda or toyota and do a trade. Okies luv their trucks.....
Down side to that is........you don't know what the heck on God's green earth he's done to this car and it could've be ANYTHING, definitely run it by a mechanic before doing any deals.........
