Mercedes 300 SE has a feature to pull the door in if left ajar. That feature has stopped working about a month now. I am not sure why. How does this feature work? How to fix it?

Guess: Inside door at latch is detecting the position and a motor will finish closing door as told and if told to be electrical sensors - one that it need it and one that it's done to stop trying. It's a maybe that just spraying WD-40 or equivalent in the latch just as you can see it on the door (the jaws and all around there) may snap it to working again. From there if that doesn't work I think you'll need to get inside the panel to check that wiring or just look for something broken. If you get no warning that door is not fully closed with some warning light it may have a broken wire where they bend in door jam - of course they are well concealed so you can't see or test easily. MB is historically better about those then some others but it's possible?? T
