1992 Ford Tempo GL dies all of a sudden Sign In

I have a 1992 Ford Tempo GL 4 Cylinder. It seems like after it gets warmed up, it just

shuts completely off like I turned the key off. Well, I replaced the coil and it still

did the same thing. I had the electronic module checked and it tested fine at two

parts stores. (The little plug that bolts under the distributor).

After that, my battery completely died. So, I had to replace the battery. Then I

replaced the ignition switch because it was really loose and would mess up sometimes. I

thought maybe it was getting turned off while the car was running. That didn't help it

either. Then after I got the new switch put on, I turned the key over and listened to

the fuel pump. It started screaming and sounded like it was locked up. It was making a

loud noise and then would crack and sound like it was getting chewed up.

So that led me to believe it was the fuel pump. I put the new fuel pump on this

evening, the car ran great for about 30 minutes. Then after that it just started

shutting off again. After about 3 times cranking it back up, it won't start again until

it cools down it seems.

Does anyone out there have any advice for me to go on to figure out what to do next?

When it dies and won't start, it does have fire coming off the plugs. I checked that

today.

The test on the ignition module was inconclusive. If it dies while warm, and was tested when it was working, you will not get a good test on it. It needs to be tested when the vehicle dies to get a good reading on it. From past history, I would replace the TFI module just on general purposes.

How true Mr. W2O! Testing what isn't broken causes nail biting up to the elbow!

My daughters card ('92 Tempo) had the same problems...tried fuel pump, no help...it ended up being the body control module (BCM)...there is a relay in there that controls the fuel pump circuit ...it mounts to the strut tower. I purchased one from a salvage yard. It hasen't died since! Whew Hoo! Hope I'm not too late!

Good Luck!
