1991 Grand Prix, flooding..HELP ME!!! Sign In

1991 grand Prix with 80k miles fuel inj model 3.1 multiport efi

ok first I had to replace the fuel pump inside gas tank because it was bad. I didn't use car for months because I didnt need it right away. But I would start it and let it run a bit every now n then just to keep things "in check".

Well yesterday after driving the car for about 1 hour and parking it, it would not start, turns over fine but acting like no fuel. When I removed the rubber breather that goes to the air filter it had a LOT of gas inside the tube.....over flooding I would imagine, question is, what do I check or what could be the problem???

thanks
Greg

Carefull if a lot of fuel around but next is to check for spark. Might just be something stupid that got wet while sitting so long,

This should be fuel injected and pumping does nothing to add fuel! Carbs did that back when.

Ok- find out what the spark situation is. Some fuel would be available even if injected for start up and again - be careful - put all parts back (air intake) and have extinguishers at the ready,

No choke on this sport! It's fuel injected. They may leak but some old choke tricks mean near nothing on this,

what would make so much gas emit into the intake?

Greg,

Perhaps it's time for some pro help. This thing has gas, and spark and doesn't react so chances are compression is the issue - a guess. Could be from a timing problem or not known right now. If low compression timing would be highly suspect,

(valve timing is more likely)

Sounds like a faulty Fuel Pressure Regulator.
Take the vacuum hose off the regulator and see if fuel is present in the hose,if so,replace the Regulator.
